The Senility of the Sun

Our sun, the star we know best, is an average star in its mid life crisis. Scientist have reasoned from the evidence that our sun is about half way through its life as a mid sized yellow star. There is nothing special about it except for the fact that it gives us light, heat, food, and energy.

Without the sun our life on this planet would not exist, and we would not even know it. Or God could have chosen to create another way for life to exist without the energy from the sun. We would not even have food without the sun since plants use the sun’s energy to do photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process of turning light energy (sunlight) into usable chemical energy (food).

If you struggle with the existence of God and intelligent design maybe you should do a study on the process of photosynthesis. If that doesn’t convince you then look into DNA. If that doesn’t convince you then it isn’t information you need because you have already made up your mind. People rarely become atheist by studying science. They usually come to the table with an atheistic world view and try to support it with science. This is getting harder and harder to do, though. That is because so many modern scientific discoveries were predicted in the Bible a long time ago.

Anyway back to the sun. Scientist now know that the sun will eventually burn up, and die. Since scientist have discovered that the universe had a beginning, and that the universe is expanding, they know that it cannot go on forever. All one has to do is chart the expansion rate of the universe from the beginning until now to discover that the universe will eventually end. How will it end? Consider this verse from 2 Peter 3:10-13. The end of the universe was predicted in the Bible long before modern science predicted it. It is amazing that the Bible describes how it could actually happen.

“”But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat. Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” 2 Peter 3:10-13
