With God All Things Are Possible

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

That would be the scripture that is living and demonstrated within the life of Victor Marx.  Victor is an evangelist with his ministry “All things Possible” that focuses on the most visibly lost in our world: high risk kids who are in prison.

Victor has amazing accomplishments. He is an expert in martial arts and has a Seventh Degree Karate Black Belt, Seventh Degree in Jiu-Jitsu, an expert marksman and weapons instructor.  He has trained Navy Seals, Delta Force, Green Beret’s Marine Forest Recon units, and has trained over 30 world and national champions in martial arts.

Currently a resident of Murrieta, California, he has been the featured speaker at the Annual Day of Prayer Breakfast at the Calvary Chapel Campus for the last two years.  This is where I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing him.  This year Victor treated us to a free copy of his book, The Victor Marx Story…with God All Things Are PossibleA week after the Prayer Breakfast I found myself stranded in an airport for 8 hours…My procrastination forced to an end, I “miraculously” had time to read his book… and I am thankful for that! Speaking of “All things working together for good…”

The following are my notes on Victor Marx’s book and his address at the prayer breakfast.

You can’t help but love his Cajun drawl, his very dry, self deprecating sense of humor and, of course, the demonstration of his mastery of the martial arts.  All of these are clearly observed and enjoyed by the most casual observer, but it is his testimony, his story of the horrific child abuse that he and his siblings experienced, that reaches your heart.  It is the story of how God used all of those tragic circumstances, seemingly insurmountable problems to show His power, love and forgiveness to him, the world, and ultimately, even to his abusers.  What you take away from his book and talks is the wonderful reminder that God is in control — that He uses ALL of our circumstances to bring about good in our lives and the lives of those near to us and to the world. It is the Joseph story… what his brothers meant for his harm, God meant for good — that many could be saved. Gen. 45:4-8

In a world where the word “Transparency” is so commonly spoken but demonstrated so little, it is refreshing, inspiring and healing to hear someone talk and write so openly about his life both past and present.  While I have heard many testimonies about broken lives before they came to know the Lord and their deliverance from addictions, troubled pasts, and abuse as a result of God’s saving grace, Victor’s testimony goes further into how these psychologically destructive childhood experiences have also presented challenges in his Christian life and ministry.  While his stories of sexual, physical and mental abuse are among the most tragic that I have heard, it is the stories about overcoming and God’s deliverance from the effects of his childhood on his marriage, parenting and ministry that moved me the most.  Victor shares his struggles with debilitating injuries, depression and Post Traumatic Syndrome during his Christian life and ministry.  He explains his victories as well as his lowest moments.  The Cross is evident in his ministry.  While his humor, martial art skill and Cajun voice entertain you, it is the presence of God in his broken spirit that reaches your heart with power and hope.  It is no wonder that God has used this ministry in awesome ways to reach some of the most broken and lost in our society.

I would encourage you to read his book or listen to him at one of his speaking engagements.  Victor exudes a genuine reliance on God’s strength to overcome every obstacle, it is a recurring theme in both his writing and speech that gives both the reader’s and listener faith and hope in a God who loves us and uses all things for our good…and to reach others with His love.

My “Big 10” things I have learned after following Jesus for 25 years.

by Victor Marx on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at 8:06am

I will celebrate 25 years this June of being born again! I have heard studied and/or taught expositional and topical through the entire Bible. I have seen glorious miracles, seen the most devastating effects of sin in lives of young and old including demonized people. I have had the honor and privilege to hang around some of the most Godly men and women on this earth and, for me, It boils down to these 10 things. There are many more but here are my current “Big 10”:

  1. Nothing good dwells in my flesh (my sin nature is my biggest enemy)

 2. True repentance that leads to Godly sorrow saves and refreshes

 3. When a person really has known God’s love and grace they will show it to others

 4. Believe Truth over lies

 5. We must deny self, take up the Cross and follow our Lord daily

 6. Stay in the Word, worship and prayer

 7. You get purpose and passion for life trusting and obeying the Lord

 8. Don’t expect ultimate justice on this earth

 9. Be tough and tender, not hard and hateful

10. Seek to save the lost and make disciples for Christ, otherwise if not, it’s like being in a house that’s on fire and all you’re doing is rearranging the furniture.

God bless you,

Victor Marx
